Chevron strikes gas supply deal with Tohoku Electric Power

Chevron has snared a multi-billion-dollar LNG sales contract with Japan's Tohoku Electric Power. The company said its Wheatstone gas project in Western Australia would supply 900,000 tonnes a year of LNG to Japan's Tohoku Electric Power Company for up to 20 years.

Recruitment drive begins for Wheatstone project

Chevron and Bechtel have started a recruitment drive to attract workers to Chevron's massive Wheatstone gas project in Western Australia. The companies have said they have not applied for an Enterprise Migration Agreement and foreign workers would only be brought in as a last resort. It is expected around 5,000 jobs will need to be filled in the construction of the Wheatstone gas project.

Alcatel-Lucent to build comms system for $29b Wheatstone gas project ‎

lcatel-Lucent has been awarded a contract by global engineering firm Bechtel to build a communications network for the facility being build by Chevron in Western Australia to process gas from its offshore Wheatstone field.

Thiess, John Holland win $300m Wheatstone contracts

John Holland and Thiess, have won $300 million more in contracts relating to Chevron's Wheatstone project.

Thiess has won a $60 million tunnelling contract, while John Holland has won a second Wheatstone contract - this time to build 12 permanent buildings for $240 million.

Queensland-based Thiess today announced it would build a 1.2km tunnelled shore crossing under the ocean, connecting two offshore gas reserves with the Ashburton North-based liquefied natural gas plant.

Thiess managing director Bruce Munro said the contract built on the company’s current work with the Gorgon LNG project.

“We’re delighted to be increasing our participation in the LNG industry,” Mr Munro said.

The micro-tunnel will be 2.5 metres in diameter to accommodate a 1.1 metre diameter pipeline that will deliver gas from the Wheatstone and Iago reserves.

John Holland to build $370m Wheatstone village

John Holland has won the contract to design and construct Wheatstone's village near Onslow. The Wheatstone village will contain 3800 rooms, recreation centres, a football oval, swimming pool, tennis courts, medical centre and dining facilities. The village is one of the first big developlments as part of Chevron's Wheatstone project.

John Holland group managing director Glenn Palin said the project win vindicated the company's strategy to position the business as a contractor of choice for non-process infrastructure in the oil and gas sector.

Decmil Australia wins Wheatstone contract

Western Australian company Decmil Australia has won a $70 million contract with the Wheatstone gas project. The contract is to design, supply and install a camp for the construction phase of Wheatstone.

The camp will include a waster water treatment camp and a central facilities building. Work on the Wheatstone camp is due to start before the end of the year.

Chevron approves Wheatstone gas project

Chevron has given the green light to an Australian subsidiary to proceed with the construction of its Wheatstone gas project in Western Australia.

“This project, along with Gorgon LNG, is well-positioned to provide a large, secure energy supply to meet growing demand in the Asia-Pacific region, and to place Chevron as one of the world’s leading LNG suppliers,” said Chevron CEO John Watson.

Construction on the Wheatstone gas project will commence immediately.
